Yurt history and construction
Trossachs Yurts are built to an authentic Krgykstan design by Paul Millard of Red Kite Yurts www.redkiteyurts.com who are based in Callander - so they are genuinely locally made! just five miles up the road.
A yurt or ger (Mongolian type) has been the portable home for nomads across the steppes and the desert of Central Asia for thousands of years. Basically it is a strong wooden trelliced framed circular structure covered with felt. They can be erected and dismantled easily and put on the back of a horse or a truck.
Paul Millard has travelled in Kyrgyzstan and you can read about his great journey here www.redkiteyurts.com/gallery/kyrgyzstan-journey

Back in 2010 the story of the Trossachs Yurts was epic.
